Flagship Solution · Reality Capture

Every brownfield plant
deserves a live twin.

VB AssetTwin captures your plant as it stands · LiDAR scan, point cloud, as-built P&IDs, isometrics, GA drawings · and hands over a digital-twin-ready handoff in 90 days. Annual reality-capture refresh keeps the twin in step with plant reality.

The problem

The as-built drawings are lies until you scan.

Brownfield plants have been retrofitted three, five, ten times. The last drawing revision reflects the plant that existed on Day 1, not Day 3,650.

Every capex decision, every HAZOP, every commissioning check that relies on a stale drawing is compounding risk. LiDAR closes the gap between drawing set and physical plant · in weeks, not years. VB AssetTwin makes reality capture a product, not a service. Fixed scope for baseline. Fixed scope for annual refresh. Digital-twin-ready handoff baked into the delivery. What you buy is not a point cloud sitting on a hard drive · it is a living twin that a plant head, an EHS lead, a HAZOP facilitator, and a capex planner can all query on the same data model.

Practice signal

What the reality-capture practice has produced.

The program

Five stages · one signature.

Every stage produces a deliverable that a digital transformation lead, a plant head, and a capex planner all trust as source of truth.

STAGE 01

SCAN

LiDAR reality capture · control network · registration

STAGE 02

PROCESS

Registration · classification · de-noising · segmentation

STAGE 03

AUTHOR

As-built P&IDs · isometrics · GA drawings from cloud

STAGE 04

VALIDATE

CEng MIE review · tie-in verification · drawing sign-off

STAGE 05

HANDOFF

Digital-twin-ready handoff + annual refresh retainer

Stage 01 · SCAN

Scan the plant as it stands to survey-grade accuracy.

Terrestrial LiDAR under Class I Div 2 discipline where required. Control points established with total station or GNSS baseline. Every scan station registered to the same coordinate system as the client asset register.

Access permitting, hot-work permitting, and confined-space entry planned before scan mobilisation. Scan crew is CEng MIE supervised · not a subcontracted GIS surveyor. What we capture is what plant engineers can use, not just visualise.

What ships in this stage
  • Registered point cloud · LAS + LAZ + RCS + E57 formats
  • Control network report with residuals under 6 mm
  • Scan coverage map · overlaid on client plot plan
  • Class I Div 2 permit log · every scan station documented
  • CEng MIE scan supervision certificate
Stage 02 · PROCESS

Point cloud becomes an engineering asset.

Post-processing under Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 or FARO SCENE. Classification separates ground, structural steel, piping, vessels, cable trays, and instruments into discrete point cloud layers · each queryable independently.

De-noising removes personnel, vehicles, and transient objects. What remains is a plant fingerprint that any downstream tool · CADWorx, PDMS, SmartPlant, AVEVA E3D · can consume as reference. The point cloud is not the deliverable · what you author from it is.

What ships in this stage
  • Classified point cloud · 8 discipline layers minimum
  • De-noised cloud · personnel and transient objects removed
  • Segmentation manifest · queryable by plant object
  • Processing quality report · residuals + coverage metrics
  • Handoff to authoring team · CAD ready
Stage 03 · AUTHOR

Drawings that match the plant line by line.

Every drawing authored against the point cloud. P&IDs redlined at the tie-in points where reality diverges from the last revision. Isometrics generated for every reticulation added, moved, or retired since the previous authoring cycle. GA drawings updated for every structural or equipment change.

ISA S5.1 for P&ID symbology. ISO 6428 for drawing conventions. IEEE 315 where electrical single-lines are in scope. Every drawing carries a revision block, a checker signature, and a CEng MIE reviewer signature. When plant operations opens a drawing, they open truth.

What ships in this stage
  • As-built P&IDs · ISA S5.1 compliant · revision-controlled
  • Isometric drawings · ISO 6428 · one per line
  • General Arrangement drawings · updated at plant, unit, area
  • Electrical single-line diagrams · IEEE 315 where in scope
  • Drawing register with revision + reviewer + issue date
Stage 04 · VALIDATE

Two-signature discipline before drawings ship.

Principal Reviewer walks the plant with the drawings and the point cloud. Every tie-in critical to safety or production is verified against the cloud model. Every discrepancy is logged, resolved, and re-issued.

Drawings do not leave VB Engineering with a single signature. Practice Lead LiDAR + Principal Reviewer both sign. The client receives a package that any auditor, any HAZOP facilitator, and any capex planner will accept without a walkdown.

What ships in this stage
  • Tie-in verification log · every critical location signed
  • Drawing review discrepancy register · closed to zero
  • Two-signature block · Practice Lead + Principal Reviewer
  • Client acceptance certificate
  • Bound drawing package · digital + physical (on request)
Stage 05 · HANDOFF

Where reality capture becomes an ARR line-item.

The point cloud and the authored drawings assemble into a digital-twin-ready handoff file · CFIHOS aligned so any Industry 4.0 platform can ingest it as the baseline asset model. Every subsequent condition-monitoring data point, every work order, every inspection lands against a real plant object.

Annual reality-capture refresh keeps the twin honest. Year 2 onwards you subscribe to a living twin backed by an engineering practice that keeps it accurate · not just a hard drive.

What ships in this stage
  • Digital twin file · CFIHOS aligned · platform-agnostic
  • Onboarding session with client digital transformation team
  • Annual reality-capture refresh calendar · locked
  • Change-of-scope protocol for major capex events
  • Platform subscription enrollment (separate commercial track)

Why VB

What makes VB AssetTwin a flagship.

Four things make VB AssetTwin different from a one-off LiDAR contractor. Every one is a productization decision that compounds over the retainer.

DIFF 01

CEng MIE scan supervision

Not a subcontracted GIS surveyor. A Chartered Engineer supervises the scan · which means the capture serves the drawings, not the other way around.

DIFF 02

Two-signature drawings

Practice Lead + Principal Reviewer both sign every drawing package. No drawing leaves with one signature · matches EPC discipline.

DIFF 03

CFIHOS-aligned handoff

The twin file is written to Capital Facilities Information HandOver Specification · so it lands cleanly in any Industry 4.0 platform your team chooses.

DIFF 04

Annual refresh, not one-time

Reality capture as a subscription · not a project. Plant evolves, twin evolves with it. Year 5 is a signature · not a rebuild.

Recurring economics

Year 1 delivers. Years 2-5 earn.

Year 1 delivers the twin. Years 2 to 5 keep it accurate as the plant evolves.

YEAR 01

Baseline scan · authoring · twin handoff

Complete reality capture + authoring + validation + twin handoff. Baseline asset model locked. Coordinate system, revision numbering, and change protocol agreed.

YEAR 02

First refresh · MoC-driven updates

Point cloud refreshed for areas with material change. Drawings re-authored. Twin re-baselined against reality. First MoC-driven twin update cycle.

YEAR 03

Mid-cycle full refresh + schema audit

Complete re-scan on 40 percent rolling coverage. Twin schema audited for drift · CFIHOS alignment re-verified. Cross-functional review with EHS + Ops + Capex.

YEAR 04

Selective refresh + retirement sweep

Point cloud refresh at HAZOP-flagged areas. Retired equipment removed from twin. Drawing set aligned to physical retirements.

YEAR 05

Full plant re-baseline · Year 6 kickoff

Complete re-scan on 100 percent plant coverage. Twin re-baselined. Client renews retainer or graduates to platform-only support cadence.
