3D LiDAR Scanning

Asset Register + Tagging

Verified physical asset register sourced from LiDAR scan + on-site tag plate readings.

Your SAP PM master is 15 years stale. Half the tags don't exist anymore, half the physical assets aren't in the system. We rebuild it from the LiDAR scan + on-site tag plate verification · every pump, motor, transformer, vessel, instrument captured with its actual nameplate data and accurate location.

Why this matters

Why your EAM master data is the bottleneck for predictive maintenance and ESG reporting

Predictive maintenance, ESG emissions reporting, mass-balance accounting · all of these assume your asset master in SAP PM / Maximo / Infor / Asset Suite is accurate. It isn't. Brownfield plants typically have 25-40% inaccuracy in their EAM master · ghost tags (in the system but removed from field), missing tags (in field but never added), wrong nameplate data, wrong locations. Rebuilding it manually takes 18-24 months. We do it in 8-12 weeks via LiDAR + field tag verification, hand it over to your EAM in CSV / IDoc / API format, ready to load.

Method

How we deliver Asset Register + Tagging

CEng MIE India-signed deliverables · LiDAR-powered where applicable · digital twin handover ready · routes to the 3D LiDAR Scanning practice lead within 24 hours.

01

Scan + classification

Point cloud classified into asset categories. Each asset extracted as a geometric primitive with location + tag-plate face flagged for capture.

02

On-site tag plate capture

Field crew with tablets photographs every tag plate, captures nameplate data via OCR + manual verification, links to point cloud asset ID.

03

Data quality + reconciliation

Captured data reconciled against your existing EAM master. Ghosts identified, missing tags added, nameplate corrections flagged.

04

EAM-ready export

Output to SAP PM (IDoc / LSMW), Maximo (CSV / REST API), Infor EAM, IBM Asset Suite, or Wistwin-native asset register.

05

Sign-off + governance handover

Final reconciled asset register signed by CEng MIE India. Governance protocol delivered to keep it current as your plant changes.

Standards + compliance

Built to the standards your auditors quote

Reports reference the international and national standards your regulators, F500 audit teams, and corporate process safety leads cite. Every deliverable signed by a Chartered Engineer (CEng MIE India).

Frequently asked

Asset Register + Tagging · the practical questions

Why use LiDAR instead of just walking the plant?
Faster, more accurate, and creates a permanent geometric record. Manual walkdowns miss assets behind structure, get lost on multi-deck units, and create no permanent record for future re-verification. LiDAR + tag capture is 5-8x faster and reusable.
Can you do this without LiDAR (tag walkdown only)?
Yes, but we don't recommend it for brownfield. Tag walkdowns alone produce a tag list without verified location, no 3D coordinates, no clash detection of asset locations against new designs. The LiDAR foundation is reusable.
What level of nameplate data do you capture?
Standard nameplate fields (make, model, serial, kW/kVA/MOC, rated voltage / current / pressure / temperature, year of manufacture). For critical assets, additional fields (test certificates, last calibration date, supplier contact) captured.
How do you handle obscure tag plates that are unreadable in field?
Three escalation tiers: (1) clean and re-photograph, (2) cross-reference with original DCS / SCADA / drawing data, (3) flag in the deliverable for client follow-up. Typically < 2% of tags remain unresolved.
Does this feed into Wistwin?
Yes natively · the asset register is the equipment layer of Wistwin. Combined with the LiDAR geometric foundation and the as-built drawing layer, it's the complete asset-level digital twin.

// FAQ · US Buyer Questions About 3D LiDAR Scanning

LiDAR in USA. Questions Answered.

Do you do LiDAR in live US plants without disrupting operations?

+

Yes. Most US engagements are captured during normal operations using whisper-quiet scanner stations strategically positioned to maintain tenant or operator SLAs. For Class I Division 1/2 hazardous areas (refineries, petrochemicals), we deploy intrinsically safe scanner equipment with hot-work permits. For pharma cleanrooms, we deploy during planned changeover windows with full gowning and decontamination compliance.

What USIBD LOA accuracy do you deliver?

+

LOA 30 (±5 mm) is our standard for refinery and industrial plant captures. LOA 40 (±1 mm) for data centers, manufacturing lines, and equipment-specific captures. LOA 50 (±0.3 mm) for pharma cleanrooms and high-precision retrofit work. Every engagement specifies the target LOA in the scope of work, validated against site control points during registration, and certified by a survey-grade accuracy certificate at handover.

Can you scan inside NEC Class I Division 1/2 hazardous areas?

+

Yes. Our refinery and petrochemical scanner stack includes UL-listed intrinsically safe (IS) equipment certified for Class I Division 1 and Division 2 atmospheres. Hand-held SLAM scanners with explosion-proof enclosures for crawl spaces. Hot-work permits, fire watch coordination, and continuous gas monitoring per OSHA 1910.146 + 1910.147. Standard practice across Gulf Coast refining and chemical plant engagements.

What output formats do you deliver?

+

ASTM E57 (vendor-neutral, mandatory). RCP and RCS for Autodesk Revit / Navisworks / Plant 3D. PTS for AVEVA E3D and Hexagon SmartPlant. IFC 4 (ISO 16739) for BIM interchange. RPC for ReCap. We also extract 2D as-built drawings: P&ID baseplane, isometric (ASME-compliant), GA, equipment lists, structural steel framings. BIM LOD 200 / 300 / 400 depending on scope.

Do you deliver PE-stamped as-built drawings from the scan?

+

Yes. The point cloud itself does not require a PE stamp. But the downstream as-built drawing pack (P&ID, isometric, GA, equipment list) that we derive from the cloud is PE-stamped by US-licensed engineers as required by Texas, Louisiana, California, Virginia, and other state PE Boards. Survey-grade accuracy certificate accompanies every drawing pack.

How does pricing compare to US-based survey firms?

+

Houston-based field deployment + Hyderabad-backed processing produces survey-grade deliverables at approximately 40 to 60 percent of typical US-firm rates. The cost differential is structural · driven by delivery model, not by reduced accuracy. Scanner-stack capital, USIBD LOA verification protocols, and PE stamps are priced at full US rates.

What is the typical engagement cycle for a US LiDAR project?

+

4 to 14 weeks depending on scope. Single substation or small process unit: 2 to 4 weeks. Mid-sized refinery or manufacturing plant: 8 to 12 weeks. 100+ MW data center campus: 4 to 8 weeks. Multi-site portfolio capture: 12 to 16 weeks. Field deployment typically takes 5 to 15 days. Registration and deliverable extraction takes 3 to 10 weeks depending on LOA target and output format.

Is the Houston field crew available for emergency capture?

+

Yes. For incident-response LiDAR (post-incident forensic capture, regulator audit preparation, insurance claim documentation), the Houston field crew can typically mobilise within 48 to 72 hours for Texas, Louisiana, and Mid-Atlantic states. Cross-country deployment within 5 to 7 days. Emergency capture pricing is the standard rate · no premium.
