HSE EAW 1989 + BS 7671 + IEEE 1584.
The three layers your HSE inspector reads.

An Arc Flash Study that survives HSE inspection is a layered compliance proof against the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, BS 7671 Wiring Regulations, and IEEE 1584-2018 calculation methodology. Every deliverable opens with the conformance matrix.

The Workflow

Seven engineering steps. Six to eight weeks.

The Arc Flash Study workflow is methodical, technical, and signed at every gate. We are not delivering a PDF · we are delivering an engineering audit trail.

STEP 01

Site walkdown + as-found verification

Physical walkdown of every switchgear, MCC, transformer. Nameplate verification, CT/PT ratio confirmation, breaker trip-unit settings logged on tablet. Legacy SLD reconciled to field. Drift documented per equipment. Client engineer accompanies walkdown.

2-3 days siteSenior Engineer led
VB engineer at UK brownfield walkdown · arc flash field data collection · nameplate verification
STEP 02

SLD reconciliation + client sign-off

Walkdown data plotted against the client SLD. Every drift logged. Client engineer co-signs the reconciled SLD before any calculation begins. This is the input-layer discipline that decides accuracy of every downstream number.

3-5 days deskClient co-signed

STEP 03

System modelling in ETAP or DigSILENT

Software model built from verified as-found data. Source impedances, transformer parameters, cable lengths and impedances, motor contributions, generator data. Every bus identified, every protective device modelled. IEC 60909 fault calculations cross-validated by hand at critical buses.

Arc Flash Boundary

Tiger-stripe boundary at 33 kV outdoor substation

Where incident energy demands a physical demarcation, we paint the boundary. Yellow and black tiger stripes at the cable pit perimeter define the energised work restricted-approach distance. No calculation in a PDF replaces this.

UK Buyer Questions

Procurement and engineering questions, answered.

Are you ADNOC-AVL pre-qualified?
We hold pre-qualification with multiple ADNOC operating companies for power systems and process safety engineering. Specific opcode-level approvals depend on the operating company · we provide current pre-qualification status on request before tender submission. For non-ADNOC UAE work (DEWA-connected industrial, Jebel Ali Free Zone, KIZAD), no operator pre-qualification is required.
How does Electricity at Work 1989 compare to NFPA 70E?
SAES-E-005 references IEEE 1584 methodology (same calculation engine as HSE EAW 1989 dutyholder review demands English DANGER labels, in BS 7671 + IET COP-aligned format with a 5-year revalidation cycle, and requires the conformance matrix front-of-report. Where the operator references both standards (typical for multinational JVs in Ruwais), we deliver a dual-track package.
Can the study be conducted during plant operations?
Yes. The walkdown, data collection, and software modelling phases require no shutdown · they run during normal operations. Label installation requires brief access to each equipment item (5-10 minutes) coordinated with operations supervisor. Worker training delivered between shifts. Full study end-to-end with no plant shutdown is standard delivery.
What is the typical timeline for a UAE Arc Flash Study?
For a 11 kV / 33 kV industrial site (typical Jebel Ali, Mussafah, KIZAD): 6 weeks end-to-end. For a 132 kV ADNOC operating-company facility (Ruwais petrochem, ADNOC onshore gas gathering): 8 weeks. For a multi-train operating-company complex: 10-14 weeks split across phased outage windows.
Do you deliver in operator-preferred software format?
Yes. Default modelling is ETAP. Where the operator standardises on DigSILENT PowerFactory (typical for Aramco-aligned procurement), we deliver in DigSILENT. Where the operator standardises on PSCAD, we deliver in PSCAD. Output reports are software-agnostic PDFs with raw model files included.
What is included in the bilingual label format?
Print-ready PDF labels per equipment. Each label carries: DANGER ARC FLASH HAZARD (English BS 7671 dutyholder format), ATPV cal/cm² value, arc flash boundary distance, restricted approach distance, PPE category, equipment ID, study date. Labels printed at our Hyderabad facility, shipped to UAE, installation supervised by our London team. Operator option to print locally with our master files.
Is the 5-year AMC retainer mandatory or optional?
Optional. The base Arc Flash Study is a one-time engineering deliverable. The 5-year AMC retainer (annual walkdown + change-impact + re-labelling on equipment changes + full re-study at year 5) is offered as a follow-on contract for operators who want continuous compliance instead of episodic re-tendering. Typical 60% of UAE customers sign the AMC for cost predictability.
