VB FieldSure™by VB Group®
Pharma and API plants

P&IDs that match your plant. A HAZOP your auditor accepts.

1,000+ studies delivered across 21 countries since 2014, by the engineers who walk your plant and sign your drawings.

VB FieldSure verifies a pharma plant’s P&IDs against the actual piping, by walkdown or LiDAR scan, then runs the HAZOP on the corrected drawings, so one team owns both. IS 15656:2006 lists detailed P&I drawings as a required HAZOP input. Pricing is per verified drawing, sent as a written proposal.
FieldSure field verification A LiDAR scanner sweeps a process area. As the scan passes, each line and item on the P&ID is checked against the plant and marked verified, and a bypass line found in the plant but missing from the drawing is flagged. When plants call us

When does a pharma plant need its P&IDs updated and a HAZOP redone?

Pharma plants call us for six reasons, and four of them are a change to the plant rather than a date on a calendar.

Process engineer at a stainless steel reactor in a pharma clean room
USFDA or EU GMP inspectionDrawings that do not match the plant slow every walk-through the inspector asks for.
Schedule M inspectionState inspections under revised Schedule M began on 7 November 2025.
New block or expansionNew lines tie into old ones. The old drawings decide whether the tie-in HAZOP is valid.
Process or solvent changeA new route or solvent changes hazards that the last HAZOP never saw.
Parent company or PSCI auditGlobal EHS standards ask for current process safety information at Indian sites.
Annual safety auditMSIHC Rule 10(6) asks for a fresh independent safety audit once a year.

Which rules make accurate P&IDs and a current HAZOP necessary in India?

No Indian rule sets a fixed P&ID update interval, but three instruments turn an outdated drawing set into an audit finding.

Instrument and clauseWhat it means for your drawings and HAZOP
MSIHC Rules 1989 · Rule 10(4), 10(6)An independent safety audit by an expert not associated with the plant, repeated once a year with a copy to the authority within 30 days.
MSIHC Rules 1989 · Rule 11(1)A further safety report at least 90 days before any modification that could materially change the earlier report.
IS 15656:2006 · Cl 5.1.2.3, 8(g)HAZOP takes detailed P&I drawings as its input, and risk analysis is redone after a major change in plant configuration.
Revised Schedule M · CDSCO directiveState inspections began on 7 November 2025; small and mid-size units had until 1 January 2026 under the extension.

What does a FieldSure engagement cover in a pharma plant?

Every process and utility P&ID you choose is checked line by line against the plant, corrected, and then taken through HAZOP.

  • Process P&IDs: reactors, centrifuges, dryers, solvent recovery
  • Utility P&IDs: purified water, WFI, clean steam, HVAC, nitrogen
  • Field walkdown with redline markup
  • LiDAR scan in congested areas
  • Discrepancy log: every difference found
  • Redlines built into your native CAD files
  • HAZOP with an independent chairman
  • Action register your team can close

The money question

How much does a HAZOP and P&ID updation cost for a pharma plant?

A HAZOP and P&ID updation for a pharma plant is priced per verified drawing, with the HAZOP priced on the drawings and nodes it reviews, so the number of P&IDs in scope sets most of the cost. Share your count below and our engineer sends a validated price range and proposal.

Part of the workHow it is pricedWhat moves the price
Field-verified P&IDPer verified drawing: walkdown, redline, CAD update and QACondition of your existing drawings, access and gowning, CAD format
HAZOP on verified drawingsPer P&ID reviewed, set by nodes and study daysProcess complexity, number of nodes, chairman days

Your price range and proposal reach you by email once our engineer has validated your inputs. No obligation, and five drawings checked free on site if you want proof first.

How is a FieldSure engagement run, and how long does it take?

Four stages run in sequence, from the first walkdown to a signed HAZOP report and an action register your plant can close.

Sustain

Do not run a HAZOP on drawings nobody has walked. A HAZOP reviews what is on the P&ID. If a bypass, a hose connection or a solvent line exists only in the plant, the study cannot see it and the risk goes unrecorded.

Tools and formats

Which scanners and software does VB use for P&ID and as-built work?

VB captures plants with the Leica RTC360 laser scanner, registers the scans in Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS and Autodesk ReCap Pro, and draws P&IDs and 3D models in AutoCAD Plant 3D and Autodesk Revit. Your drawings come back in the format your engineers already open every day.

One plant, start to finish

What does a FieldSure engagement on an API plant look like?

A typical API plant engagement starts with a walkdown of the drawings in scope, logs every difference between paper and pipe, and ends with a HAZOP run on corrected drawings and an action register the site can close.

On a pharma site the walkdown usually turns up the same things: bypasses added during a campaign, hose connections made permanent, a pump replaced with a new tag, a solvent line rerouted for a new block. Each one is redlined, logged and built into your CAD files before the HAZOP team opens the first node. The study then reviews the plant you operate, and every action lands on a drawing your auditor can check.

Questions pharma plants ask before they award

How much does a HAZOP study cost?

A HAZOP study is priced on the P&IDs and nodes it reviews and the number of study days. Share your P&ID count in the price form and our engineer sends a validated range and proposal.

What is the cost of P&ID updation per drawing in India?

P&ID updation is priced per verified drawing and covers the walkdown, redline, CAD correction and QA. The final figure depends on drawing condition and access, so we send it as a written proposal.

Who should update the P&IDs and run the HAZOP?

One team should own both, because the HAZOP is only as good as the drawings it reviews. FieldSure verifies the drawings first and then runs the study on them.

Can a HAZOP be done on outdated P&IDs?

It can be run, but it reviews the plant on paper, not the plant you operate. IS 15656:2006 lists detailed P&I drawings as the HAZOP input.

How long does a HAZOP take for a pharma plant?

Workshop days depend on node count, and the full FieldSure sequence depends on how many drawings are in scope. Your proposal states both.

What documents are required for a HAZOP study?

P&IDs first, then process descriptions, material safety data, cause and effect charts and operating procedures.

Is P&ID updation the same as redrawing?

No. Redrawing copies the old drawing into new CAD. Updation checks every line against the plant and corrects what has changed.

Do we need a LiDAR scan?

Only where the plant is congested or access is limited. Most pharma utility areas can be verified by walkdown.

Who is responsible for keeping as-built drawings current?

The plant owner. Contractors hand over drawings, but every later change has to be recorded by the site.

Can AI read our P&IDs instead?

AI can digitise a drawing. It cannot tell you whether the line still exists in the plant. That needs someone on site.
