Integrated steel complexes in the Bellary-Hospet belt were built across three decades and four ownership cycles. The 400 kV intake, the 132 kV reticulation, the 11 kV motor distribution and the 415 V utility have each been studied separately, by different consultants, against different code revisions. Layered on top is a mining haulage logistics problem that an arc flash study cannot solve - it requires discrete event simulation of pit-to-port material flow.

Why brownfield is different

Brownfield is not greenfield with old equipment.

A steel complex with three vintages of switchgear and four ownership cycles cannot be studied as a single system. The Ballari practice approaches it as a layered brownfield problem - each voltage tier studied in its own technical reality, then reconciled at the interfaces. The mining side is treated as a discrete logistics problem with discrete event simulation, not as an electrical extension of the steel plant.
